Obituary for Agnes Mackenzie

Agnes Mackenzie
Agnes Muir Mackenzie, always known as Nan, proud mother and advocate died at age 78 on May 13, 2017 at the Villa Acadienne in Meteghan, N.S. Born April 4 1939 in Glasgow Scotland she was a daughter to the late Hugh and Henrietta (Smyth) Mackenzie . Left behind are her family, sister Fiona, daughters Karin and Jocelyn, and grandchildren Sarah, Alexandra, Tikken and Sebastian. Nan worked tirelessly in hopes of finding solutions and supports for people who attended to loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s. In the end she lived very simply and focussed on those in need. Her simple request is to think about the following passage:
When I have come to the end of the road and the sun is set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me but let me go
For this is the journey we must take
And each must go alone
It’s all part of the masters plan
A step on the road to home
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friend we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deed
Miss me but let me go

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth where cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life will take place June 15 from 4-7pm, 722 Riverview Rd, Bear River, 902-467-0771. Donations in Nan’s memory can be made to Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, B0W 2J0. Please give return address. On-line condolences may be sent to: sweenysfh@eastlink.ca or you may sign the guestbook on-line at: www.sweenysfuneralhome.net We are deeply grateful to the loving, dedicated staff of Villa Acadienne who shared Nan’s joy of song and laughter and loved her unconditionally for the past several years.
